Carillon Voss, the Bellwoken Archivist
Before he became the Bellwoken Archivist, Carillon Voss was a man trying to save his family. During the years of the Dark Flu, when death emptied homes across the land, Voss locked himself away in his alchemical laboratory. He could not cure the body, but after many failed experiments, he found another path: a way to preserve the soul.
Voss learned to bind a soul into arcane ectoplasm, a strange slime-like substance that could live inside objects made to hold resonance. Because his wife had once been a musician, he chose bells, chimes, cymbals, music boxes, tuning forks, and other relics that could hum, ring, and sing.
This became the Rite of Ressonification. In a way, it worked. The dead walked again. But they did not return as they had been. Their memories were gone, their old lives lost. What came back were not mindless creatures, but something new: gentle, unfinished beings, full of feeling, trust, and strange innocence.
At first, this broke Voss. His family stood before him, alive in a new form, but with no memory of who he was. Yet they did not fear him. They loved him as their maker, their teacher, and their father.
Over time, grief became purpose. From his loss, Voss built the Carillon State: a city of brass, bells, and soul-slime life. There, the Bellwoken live on as deathless constructs, always learning, never aging, and growing more attuned to the wizard who gave them form.
They adore their Grand Master Wizard. And when Carillon Voss calls them to war, they answer with perfect faith. Because father protects, and his miracles endure.
